D.P. JONES ELECTRICAL COMPANY
222 32nd Street • Columbus • (706) 323-3628

“Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it.”

That philosophy has been at the core of D.P. Jones Electrical Company since Daniel Phillip “D.P.” Jones founded it 70 years ago.

His grandson,Murray Jones, who nowowns the family business, calls the founder “one of the most honest and sincere people” he has ever known. As a result of his grandfather’s reputation, the business thrived on referrals from satisfied customers. Murray’s father Earl, who served as an officer in theMarine Corps, further enhanced the company by establishing a systemof organization and discipline.

Murray initially went in a different career direction, spending 23 years at CB&T. In 2004 he reached a crossroads when his father was unable to continue running the company due to unexpected medical reasons. Murray took a leave of absence from the bank to examine the viability of the family business. He determined it was financially sound. A desire to continue the sterling reputation built over the years led Murray to make the leap and buy out his father.

Since then, D.P. Jones Electrical Company has flourished. Murray, who spent summers and school breaks working in the family business, continues to operate under the principle of providing quality work when promised. He is proud that the company has never needed to advertise since jobs still come from repeat customers and referrals.

Seventy percent of the work is in upscale homes. The crews also do high-end remodeling and some light commercial work. They work closely with architects and home buyers to plan the electrical system and place outlets and boxes where they are wanted and needed. Murray says they spend a lot of time on the front end with the customer in order to get it right the first time.

Employees also continue the company’s history of community involvement. Just recently they participated in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and volunteered 100 percent of the labor to install the electrical system in the 2009 St. Jude Dream Home.

Located at 222 32nd Street, D.P. Jones Electrical Company carries on the tradition of the successful, home-grown family business.
