I’ve had a PET CT once before during this past eight years, but it has been a while since that happened. A smiling Tiffany met us in the Midtown Medical Center Radiology Department waiting room to summon me back for the scan. She casually asked me whether I’d had much to eat today, and it sounded like she knew about my eating issues and I still didn’t see what she was getting at.
I told her I had eaten a small service of a couple of different vegetables for lunch. “When did you eat?” she asked. “About 45 minutes ago,” I said as she did a 180 and headed back to the waiting room. “This was supposed to be fasting?” I asked.
I didn’t think these nuclear scans required fasting, so I blew this one. We had to leave and we rescheduled the PET CT for Tuesday early afternoon. Damn! Totally my fault. Should have thought to ask.
Just wanted to post a brief post and let my readers know that we’ve had to push until Tuesday.

You shouldn’t have had to ask. You should have received instructions. You have enough crap to worry with.
Ann Venable says
I agree with you on this one, Jack
Cherry Kersey says
No – you shouldn’t have had to ask. This one is not on you. But “count it all joy” dear Mike. God has this all under control.
Sherrie says
Not your bad. Dang. You should have been told.
Praying continues friend.
Cindi says
Not on you, it’s on them but thanks for updating. Hope your weekend is enjoyable

Mike put it totally out of your consciousness and enjoy this special weekend with your bride, as we reflect on the sacrifices of those who blessed us with the opportunity to live under the banner of freedom all the days of our lives. This grand experiment of government of the people, by the people and for the people continues, so long as we have the fortitude to “keep what we have without casting it aside for the latest scheme that an idiot has concocted” in spite of a history to the contrary.
Bless you, my friend, jack

I hate when they screw up and then make you feel guilty. I know that most medical professionals are good at their jobs and that no one wants to waste time. It was perhaps a minion who forgot to ensure instructions were sent, but it is maddening when something so small prevents you from getting timely care. Communication – so basic! And, Amen and ditto to the above post from Jack Pezold. He is so right!
Carol Ann Kaplan says
There is a reason it happened. Perhaps Divine Intervention! Go out and enjoy your weekend!
My vocabulary is limited, so let me just say that you are da bomb diggity of men!
Jill and every one of us who has been around you are truly blessed.
God bless you!!!

Mike: the very first Under Anesthesia Biopsy Billy had was a similar experience except it was with his Plavix. We are in the holding area, he’s all “dressed out” for surgery when the Anesthesiologist comes to the bedside to ask a few questions. Billy has had 5 heart attacks with cardiac stent placement each time so he is on Plavix. The nurse did call with instructions. I specifically asked her if Billy should hold his Plavix for 4 days prior (as he had in the past) and she said no. When the doctor asked, we told him and the surgery was cancelled for a week. Mike, even knowing what the outcome would be, we were both upset. The next week, his “formal” diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the vocal cord was now on record. That was December, 2012 and he could not be seen by the local oncologist until January, 2013 due to the holidays. I didn’t mean this to be so detailed but, needless to say, we don’t even remember that Christmas. I continue to pray for you and Jill-I know this is a family disease. He is far from finished with treatment (now, he needs treatment to repair the damage from the radiation). God Bless you and your precious wife, Jill.

Mike, when they did my PET scan, I don’t remember their asking me what I’d eaten, or getting any instructions not to eat beforehand.
But, with the holiday weekend, there probably wouldn’t have been anyone around to “read” yours anyway. So, having it done on Tuesday might be a blessing, because you’ll probably get the results just as quickly as you would have if you’d had it done today. Have a wonderful Memorial Day!! Eat anything and everything that still tastes good.
We love you!

Look at the positive side. These few extra days just give us more time for intense prayer.
Gwen Ruff says
Be at peace and courageous!!! Our God is with you and all is well…much love to you and Jill

On Sunday I asked my Sunday School class to add their prayers, thinking the scan was done. Most of them knew who you are, but not all of them knew your journey. So there are more prayer warriors joining the rest of us. I know the delay was a disappointment, and I hope you have been able to roll with it. If not, that is okay! Love you and Jill.
