On with the new!

I wrote a post several months ago about the requisite endings that precede the beginnings of a newly renovated home, as well as a few endings that were unique to my situation. I looked forward to getting past all the endings and imagined a day when I would be sitting on our couch, settled in the new house, writing a blog post about enjoying the “new.” This is ALMOST that post.

I am, indeed, writing this from the new den, and although it’s not the brand of settled that I had in mind, this is almost the moment that I longed for 8 months ago.

I grieved the loss of three grandparents, I dropped my daughter off at college, I made peace with empty nest, and my critters survived the transition to a new house. I still have a house to sell and say goodbye to, but I have finally come to the end of almost all the endings.

Now we’re on to the new! Rush and I are enjoying a new address, the new sights and sounds of a new neighborhood, fabulous new neighbors, the new shorter drive downtown, new spacious rooms, the newly tiled master shower, the new stove and microwave … oh … and Rush got THE HOT TUB UP AND RUNNING!!!

DIY tip #582: If you want spring to come to your town, forget the groundhog, install a hot tub. High temps in Columbus jumped 18 degrees in just 3 days—Scout’s honor! It barely reached 51 degrees on the day he started installing the hot tub, but the mercury hit 69 on the day the tub was ready, and it’s been in the 70s ever since. Coincidence? I think not!!!

We are enjoying all the new, but many miles still lie between us and Settledville. My house has yet to sell, my belongings are spread between three houses, Rush’s shop is still in the country, we yearn for a new fridge and dishwasher, and we still have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG list of projects to get the new house to a point that we can relax and feel a sense of accomplishment.

But with most of the endings out of the way and so much new to enjoy, I’m a happy DIYer!!

Happy spring, all!!
